Utica Greens Fest Announces SHOP LOCAL Concept
UTICA, NY - The Utica Greens Fest is announcing its SHOP LOCAL concept for the festival taking place Saturday, September 12th 2009, Noon - 6PM. In keeping with the UTICA , green, & eco-friendly theme the Utica Greens Fest is providing an avenue to encourage residents and visitors to SHOP LOCAL. An area of "Green Street" (Varick Street) will feature vendors that are from CNY and either make their product here, base their business here, or have a CNY heritage of some sort. The event will be run in coordination with the UMAF which is September 10th-12th throughout the city of Utica. The event will feature live performances by UMAF musicians, artists, food, and shopping.
The Utica Greens Fest will be celebrating and showing off one of Utica's signature dishes, Utica Greens. Area restaurants will be featuring their different versions of Utica Greens. So whether you like them hot, medium, mild, with or without potatoes, ham or prosciutto, the Utica Greens Fest will feature every different recipe. This event is to be a celebration of the food that shapes our city and families.
The family friendly Utica Greens Fest will be a GREEN event. "Green" eco friendly vendors will line "Green Street" (Varick Street) which will be closed to traffic 8am - 8pm. UMAF musicians will be playing live in the street, so that families and guests of all ages may enjoy the music of the UMAF as they shop, eat, and socialize.
The Utica Greens Festival is currently taking submissions for the following:
- Local restaurants to sample their greens and sell their best dishes (limited space available)
- LOCAL businesses to sell their goods that are made in Central New York (limited space available)
- Eco-friendly green vendors to sell their green themed products (limited space available)
- Artists to create beautiful sidewalk chalk drawings all over Green Street (Varick St)

The Utica Greens Festival is looking for the following:
-Sidewalk Artists to create beautiful chalk drawings all over Varick St. (which will be closed to traffic) -Local restaurants to sample their greens and sell their best dishes -ECO-friendly green vendors to sell their green products
There are only 15 restaurant and 15 vendor spots available.
